About WSSL
West Side Soccer League and the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO)
The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) is a nationwide non-profit organization made up of hundreds of regions that develop and deliver quality youth soccer programs in a fun, family environment. The West Side Soccer League (WSSL) started in NYC as the 611th region of AYSO. WSSL hosts well over 5,000 youth soccer games annually for over 4,000 children and their 7,500 or so volunteer parents. WSSL adheres to AYSO’s core philosophy and five guiding principles. WSSL relies on the dedication of its volunteers and the generosity of its sponsors to operate a well-run league that has a positive impact on its participants and the greater New York community.
Letter from the Commissioner
As my sixth season as WSSL's commissioner begins, I am as excited as the first. While we can all feel a bit overwhelmed with the details of launching a season for 4,200 kids, it is exciting to have so many great volunteers participating in making soccer better and better for our kids.
A couple of notes about the "State of the League": We have done a lot to improve our soccer administration so we can spend more time on building soccer skills with our kids and building training capabilities with our volunteers. We will continue to build on those improvements. This year, our number ONE goal is to fortify and grow our Referee Program. We are recruiting new referees, increasing our training capabilities and providing a structure within which our referees can find answers, support and a rewarding experience. If you are looking to help the league, this is an area of need and focus. More qualified referees will mean a better game for our kids.
It continues to be a pleasure and a privilege to serve as Regional Commissioner for WSSL and to shepherd its continued success. I applaud the great work that all our volunteers do and promise to continue this great tradition with your help. I am at your service and look forward to hearing from you and, especially, to seeing you on the fields.
Yours in soccer,
Dana DiPrima
