Fields
Riverside Park (Trump/Riverside South, 73rd & 75th)
Location: Riverside South (aka 70th Street or Trump), 73rd Street Track, 75th Street Ballfields. It is best to enter Riverside Park at 72nd Street to access these fields. Go past the dogrun, go through the tunnel and down a long flight of stairs. Trump will be to the left past the baseball field. 73rd Street Track will be immediately to the right. 75th Street Ballfields will be further to the right past the playground and stone buildings. 75th Street Ballfields can also be accessed easily from 79th Street and most safetly through the outdoor cafe at the 79th Street Boat Basin.
Equipment Storage: The equipment for these three fields is stored in the stone lockup between the 73rd Street Track and the 75th Street Ballfields. There are two stone buildings. Our equipment is stored in the northmost building and is accessed through the southmost door with a key provided to you by your coach, division head or divisional equipment director. WSSL shares this space with WSLL and the Parks Department. WSSL keeps its goals and cones just inside the door to the right under the window.
Inventory: The fields should be set with two Pugg goals, cones for corners and discs for sidelines. The lock up should contain a ton of discs and cones. It should also contain no less than 4 pairs of Puggs neatly stored in their zippered pouches or tidily nested one inside the other. At the beginning of the season, the lock up should contain two extra sets of Pugg goals. Should ANY of the equipment become unusable, please notify your divisional equipment director immediately.
How to set it up: The opening teams of each game day are responsible for setting up the fields. Openers will need the lockup key. Each team using these fields will split their teams onto two fields that are roughly 30 yards long by 25 yards in width. Pace them out. One large pace is about a yard. General rule, make the fields as big as the area permits. If the ground is soft enough, drive the pegs from the Puggs into the ground. Again, cones for corners, discs for lines. On Trump, the goals should be on the East and West endlines. Four mini fields will fit on Trump with space for sidelines in between. On 73rd Street Track and on the 75th Street Ballfields, the goals should be on the North and South ends with two fields going end to end. On the 75th Street Ballfields, half the field will be grass and half will be dirt as 75th is a baseball field.
How to break it down: The teams who play the last games are responsible for breaking down the fields after the last game. Stack cones and discs separately. Store them in tidy stacks on the windowsill right inside the lockup to the right. Twist and fold two Pugg goals together into one zippered pouch. Neatly stack and line up the filled Pugg pouches inside the door -- to the right under the window -- of the lock up. If by chance the Pugg pouches become broken, the Puggs must be stored nested one inside the other and stacked neatly under the window out of the way of any others who may enter the lockup.
Don't forget the trash! Every team is responsible for cleaning up after their game. Beverage containers, snack wrappings and boxes, etc. should be placed in nearby trash receptacles. Don't forget your sweatshirts, etc. Any lost and found items should be stored neatly in the lockup or given to a coach willing to reunite the item with its owner. Following the final game, the closing teams should do a quick sweep of the field and make sure the trash has been disposed of properly.
If there are ANY safety concerns please contact your divisional equipment director and the Regional Safety Director immediately.
