Required Training
WSSL's coach (including assistant coaches) and all referee volunteers receive training that covers the content they need to know to fulfill the position as well as Safe Haven training that prepares them to work with young children. All coach and referee volunteers must take Safe Haven and must be up to date with the latest training for the age groups they coach and referee.

Coaching Courses- Safe Haven/ Coach Certification Clinics at various levels: U8, U10, U12
- Practical Coach Certification Clinics (held every few weeks during the season): For all coaches as a way to stay fresh, learn new skills and practice games, etc.
- U8 Official Certification Course: Introductory. Mandatory for all Referees. Includes Safe Haven. Covers you for U6, U7 and U8 years. Volunteers must be at least 10 years old to take this class. Offered 6-8x/year.
- Basic Referee Certification Course: Must have previously passed U8 Official Certification Course in order to attend. Covers offside, goalkeepers, fouls, misconduct and referee communication. Certifies you for U9 and older games. Volunteers must be at least 12 years old to take this course. Offered 4-6x/year.
- Intermediate Referee Course: Optional course targeted at more experienced referees, typically at around U-12 plus or minus. Typically offered 1x/year in the winter.
- Advanced Referee Course: Optional course targeted at experienced referees, typically at U-14 or U-19. Offered infrequently.
- Referee Q & A: Held periodically throughout the season to provide a forum where referees can discuss situations that have come up on the field and ask questions about rules and their applications. Special topics occasionally introduced.
