SafeSport

Thank you for being a WSSL volunteer! We appreciate everything you do to keep the league running smoothly and delivering a great soccer experience to the players.

All WSSL volunteers aged 18 years and over have a training requirement called SafeSport.  Coaches and team admins will not be assigned to teams, referees will not be eligible to officiate, and access to training will be limited if SafeSport is not completed.

Why?

In 2017, Congress passed the SafeSport Act which expanded Mandated Reporters to include adults authorized to interact with children. This includes AYSO and West Side Soccer League. Training on child abuse and mandated reporting is now required and has been in effect since January 1. U.S. Soccer has decided that AYSO Safe Haven is no longer sufficient to satisfy this requirement and AYSO volunteers must take SafeSport training.

Things to keep in mind:

  • You do not have to pay for this training.
  • Youth Volunteers are not required to take this training.
  • You should allow 2 hours to complete the training but it does not have to be completed in one session.
  • SafeSport training is a 90-minute online course for the first year and is repeated every three years; there is an annual refresher course for SafeSport which is a 30-minute online course.
  • If you take SafeSport for one organization, your certification will be recognized by all organizations. The systems should synch up as long as you use the same email address for your WSSL and SafeSport logins.
  • In addition, Safe Haven is required for all AYSO volunteers (including teenage volunteers).

How do I access this training?

  • This course is NOT taken through eTrainU.
  • Login to your WSSL account and click on the Learning icon at top-right:
  • Once on the eTrainU page, scroll down and click on the SafeSport link (do NOT click on the green eTrainU button).

We value your service and need you to complete this training so that you can continue to volunteer (and so our kids can continue to play).
